CELEBRATING DIVERSITY

At Hack In The North, we create an environment that brings developers together irrespective of their gender, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background or ethnicity. Ever since its inception, Hack In The North has been extremely devoted to the cause of celebrating diversity among its participants. Over the years, we have strived to make sure that women get a chance to showcase their experience with all fairness - HINT 2.0 had a direct entry to any and all girls’ teams and individual entries.

In HINT 2.0, the best performing girls’ team received special prizes and swags from our side as a token of appreciation for their remarkable efforts. Continuing this tradition, this year, we plan on going a step further and introduce contests especially for female developers so as to promote their interests, and the larger cause of equality and diversity.

As a part of promotions for Hack In The North 3.0, IIITAHacks 2.0 was conducted on October 28-29, 2017 aiming to increase girl participation and encourage the hackathon culture among the student body at IIIT Allahabad and nearby colleges like Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad. It was a resounding success, with many more girls’ teams having participated as a result. For HINT 3.0, we will be considering all teams equally on merit - as we always have. In order to bridge this troublesome gap, we assure you a reservation of 20% seats for girls leaving no excuse to prove a point Beyoncé made forever ago- who run the world? GIRLS!

FAQ

Who can apply?

Unless you're Vitas, you can apply for HINT 3.0. And ofcourse if you're under 18 years of age, we shall need a consent from your parents allowing your participation.

Can we apply as a team?

Yes! This hackathon is strictly a team competition (4 members). We believe that you’re stronger as a team than you are apart. You can join or create a team once you've started an individual application.

What if I don’t have a team or an idea?

Not to worry, most people don’t! We’ll have team formation and ideation events geared towards helping you find people to work with.

What if I've never been to a hackathon before?

Then we're so glad HINT will be your first ever! It’s helpful to have some programming or technical experience, but it’s not a requirement. We’ll have talks, mentors and workshops to help you with your project.

Can I start working on my hack before the event?

No. In the interest of fairness, students should not be working on their projects before Hack in the North begins and we do not allow participants to work on pre-existing projects. However, you can familiarize yourself with all the tools and technologies you intend to use beforehand!

What if I don’t want to present my hack?

Unfinished or unimpressive (so you think) projects should be presented anyway! Presenting your hack gives you a chance to be proud of what you’ve done, and a constructive perspective of where you should be headed next.

How to reach IIIT-Allahabad?

Allahabad is well connected to all major cities of India by train. The airport at Allahabad has a daily flight to Delhi. Varansi International Airport is a 3 hour drive from Allahabad while Lucknow International Airport is 5 hours away.

Do we provide travel cost?

We can’t guarantee reimbursements for everyone, but we don’t want money to keep you from experiencing HINT. You’ll get a reimbursement amount along with your invitation. Let us know if you still need help making your way to Allahabad and we’ll see what we can do.

Are there prizes for girl teams?

HINT has always been a huge supporter of gender equality and empowerment. We've treasured swag exclusively for girls to promote and encourage their participation. Gotta grab em' all girls!
